Portland vocalist/bassist Belinda Underwood, along with special guest pianist, Benny Green will make the Fox Note one of their stops on their mid-west tour this summer. Belinda and Benny are a dynamic musical team characterized by an unmistakable on stage chemistry. 

With sultry, hypnotic vocals and frank, emotional original lyrics, Belinda Underwood offers an alternative to some of today's "cooler" jazz vocalists. Her voice draws you in with unfiltered feelings and subtle hints of human frailty. Her debut album,  “Underwood Uncurling”, showcases six of Belinda's jazz compositions and features Airto Moreira, David Friesen, and members of the band Pink Martini.

Curiously, though an accomplished bassist it has led her to pursue the singing aspect of her career. Belinda says: "It was hard for me sometimes, to translate my musical thoughts onto the bass during improvisation.  There were lines in my head but my fingers couldn't find them fast enough, and rather than get frustrated during practice, I would just SING the bass solo "

Piano master Benny Green is an exciting and hard-swinging pianist in the Bud Powell mold. A graduate of the hippest finishing school in jazz - Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers - Benny has had a remarkable career. As a teenager Green’s first gigs were with Bay Area vocalist Faye Carrol and then later with Betty Carter.

After a stint with Freddie Hubbard in 1989, he joined Ray Brown's Trio in 1992 and teamed up with legendary pianist Oscar Peterson for their 1998 CD - “Oscar and Benny”.

Green has established his own distinctive voice as the leader of a number of bands and produced many fine CDs  including  Naturally, Green’s Blues, an exciting live set of duets with guitarist Russell Malone, Jazz at the Bistro, and “Bluebird” released in June 2004.
