The Steve Johnson Quartet
Multi-instrumentalist Steve Johnson brings his quartet for the first time to the Fox Note stage. Primarily a tenor sax player Steve also steps out on flute with equal facility. One instrument that Steve finds has interesting jazz possibilities is the bass clarinet - a horn that was pioneered for jazz by Eric Dolphy. Like Dolphy Steve Johnson is a modern player with a modern sound and as a true improviser at heart will tackle, dissect and re-create some of the great jazz standards as well as present many of his original arrangements. Look forward to hearing rhythmically adventurous interpretations as well as his explorations in “odd” meters.
