The present day composer refuses to die
Writes jazz critic Dagfinn Hasselpflug in Jass Werld ...“Maddened by science, bloody but unbowed, the Lee Tomboulian Sextet plows their own sacred crop circle of bop-influenced dreams and prayers, performing mainly Tomboulian's original material.
Abetted by some of the finest muso-mathematical minds in the area, Tomboulian writes his way into corners and writes his way out again, taking you with him. Nominally a conventional sextet, they frequently disregard conventional arranging platitudes in favor of the combination you've never heard before”.
It [this group] features Axl Grease on trumpet, Hiero Glyphs on saxophones, vocals and flute, Origami Wolf on trombone, Mark Urtext on acoustic bass and Blue Note recording artist Dane Melancholy on percus-set, and Tomboulian on electronically modified accordion, piano and vocals.
