Clamnation
Reminiscent of some of the soul jazz that was recorded on the Blue Note label in the mid sixties, with it’s tight horn playing, funky back alley bass lines and “paranoid” wah-wah groove - Clamnation at their core is a band with a bop roots Latin-flavored mind set. This six piece ensemble is dedicated to preserving the organic sounds of jazz and blues, featuring traditional and afro-Carribean arrangements layered with world beat funk. Think Mingus, Morgan, Mwandishi. With a trumpet/sax horn section and guitar, bass, drums and percussion this band is not satisfied being pigeon-holed as artists of one particular genre, and are continually looking for new influences and inspirations to further shape and expand their musical offerings. This restlessness is reflected in their latest CD, "Volume III: Malacology." Claiming disparate influences such as Grant Green, Sun Ra, Dave Douglas and Frank Zappa this together ensemble not only has “the sound”- they have the feel. This is not “jazz lite”. Smooth jazz is to Clamnation as a Chevette is to an Alfa Romeo.
